How Invisalign Works

Someone holding an Invisalign aligner

Invisalign consists of a series of custom made clear aligners that will fit tightly on the teeth. Each aligner will be tighter than the last, and will be specially designed to guide your teeth into position. They apply gradual pressure on the teeth, gradually pushing them into place over the course of 12-18 months.

You'll wear each aligner for between 7 and 14 days before moving up to the next one, ideally wearing each of them for 22 hours a day.

Who Can Invisalign Help?

Someone with a question

Over the years, Invisalign has helped millions of patients straighten their teeth, so it's quite versatile! That said, clear aligners are best suited for cases of mild to moderate misalignment. For example, they can help patients who have:

Crowded Teeth

In addition to negatively impacting your self-esteem, crowded teeth can negatively impact your oral health. That's because they are often more difficult to clean, making it much more likely to develop gum disease or tooth decay. Fortunately, metal braces are no longer the only treatment option; Invisalign can help patients with mild and moderate cases! To find out if you're a good candidate for clear aligner treatment, give us a call – we look forward to helping you on your journey to your dream smile.

Gaps Between Teeth

While gapped teeth aren't necessarily that much of a health problem, many people aren't fans of the way that they make them look. Don't worry – Invisalign can move the teeth together, easily correcting this issue. Plus, the aligners are completely clear and removable, so you won't have to wait 12+ months to see results. Instead, you'll see small improvements along the way!

Overbite

An overbite is when the upper teeth protrude considerably beyond the lower ones. In addition to the aesthetic issues that come with this bite problem, patients often experience chronic jaw pain, trouble enunciating clearly, and premature wear and tear. That's why we don't recommend putting off scheduling a consultation! If we determine that you're a candidate for clear aligners, then we will create your custom treatment plan and get to work on bringing your bite into proper alignment!

Underbite

Some patients are struggling with the opposite problem: their lower teeth jut out beyond their upper ones. If that's the case for you, then you know first-hand the negative impact this bite problem can have on the look, health, and function of your smile. Fortunately, buttons and elastics can be added to your aligners, bringing the upper and lower jaw together in the process.

Crossbite

Crossbites are another common bite problem that can result in everything from considerable jaw pain to difficulty chewing properly. Don't worry though – Invisalign can move your teeth and bite into proper alignment if your case isn't too severe. Sometimes, this requires attachments and other orthodontic accessories. Rest assured, they won't draw attention to your smile like traditional braces.

Open Bite

If you have an open bite, then – you guessed it – Invisalign may be an option for you! We recommend scheduling an appointment with us so we can assess the severity of your case, determine if clear aligners are ideal for you, and, if they are, create your custom treatment plan. Before you know it, you'll be on your way to a healthier, happier smile.

Benefits of Invisalign

Someone with a nice smile

Invisalign has become incredibly popular in recent years. Although many assume it’s simply because the aligners are clear, the discreet appearance is just one of the many reasons over 17 million patients have chosen this innovative orthodontic treatment. If you follow in their footsteps, you can enjoy several noteworthy perks, including:

Freedom to Eat Your Favorite Foods

As you already know, Invisalign offers a lot to patients that they can’t get from traditional braces, including the freedom to eat their favorite foods throughout the teeth-straightening process. In other words, there aren’t any dietary restrictions. You just need to get in the habit of taking your aligners off before eating or drinking anything other than water.

Easy Dental Care

Another perk that comes with removable braces is that you don’t need to buy special oral hygiene products, like pre-threaded floss. You also don’t need to completely overhaul your dental care regimen. Just make sure that you take good care of your aligners! Even that isn’t too cumbersome because all you need is a soft-bristled toothbrush, clean, cool water, and clear, mild soap.

Fewer Check-In Visits

With traditional braces, monthly adjustment appointments are essential. As you can imagine, this can be quite inconvenient for busy students, parents, and professionals. The good news is that Invisalign doesn’t require frequent visits. Instead, you’ll only need to commit to coming in every 6-8 weeks so we can monitor the movement of your teeth and make sure you’re on-track with your treatment plan.

Metal-Free Aligners

Oftentimes, patients think the perks of metal-free braces stop and end with appearance. That’s not the case! Since Invisalign aligners are crafted from smooth plastic and each one is custom-made, they are also considerably more comfortable. Plus, if there is a sharp edge that’s bothering you, you can easily put some dental wax over it or bring the aligner to us so we can carefully file it down.

Boosted Self-Esteem

As we mentioned above, your Invisalign aligners won’t draw any unwanted attention to your smile. So, you can smile confidently throughout your teeth-straightening journey. Not only that, but you can take your aligners off before

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

Part of the difficulty in telling patients what their Invisalign treatment will cost is that this isn't a one-size-fits-all treatment. The number of trays you'll need and the length of your treatment will vary greatly depending on a variety of factors. The severity of your misalignment, in addition to the number of treatments you could need beforehand, will determine what your treatment will cost.

Don't worry though – we'll be happy to talk to you extensively about what your treatment will entail and what it will cost you when you see us for a consultation. Give us a call and we'll be happy to help you start your Invisalign journey!
